![]() A visitor looks at ancient paintings portraying Buddhist saints at the Freer Gallery, one of the Smithsonian Institution's museums of Asian art. The exhibition Enlightened Beings: Buddhism in Chinese Painting, opened Sept 1 and runs through Feb 24. Of the 27 works on display, 14 date to the Song, Yuan, and early Ming dynasties (1000-1400 CE), and the remainder are from the 15th to 19th centuries, during the later Ming and Qing periods.
