A license agreement was signed between China Daily Website and Russia's SPB TV at the Second China-Russia New Media Forum held in Russia recently.

The agreement grants the SPB TV OTT platform, as well as the Belt and Road application (owned by SPB TV), the international rights to the video-on-demand content in entertainment, documentary and news produced by China Daily Website. The content will be produced in English. The monetizing of the content will be based on the sharing of profits received from advertisements.

"We are looking forward to having cooperation with SPB TV," says Han Lei, editor-in-chief of China Daily Website. "Through the SPB TV platform, we hope that more Russian people will get to know China's stories."

Kirill Filippov, CEO of SPB TV, says: "We are currently witnessing the ever-increasing interest in alternative sources of news. The fact that the largest English-language website in China is granting us the rights to its content helps satisfy our viewers' demands and ensures the geographic expansion of our new Chinese partner."

SPB TV, as the largest provider of end-to-end, over-the-top content, internet protocol television and mobile TV solutions in the Commonwealth of Independent States, started broadcasting content from China in 2013.

What they say

Zhou Shuchun,

editor-in-chief of China Daily

Media in China and Russia share the mission of telling the stories of their countries and enhancing international competitiveness and public influence by making the best use of the internet and new media. More young people should be encouraged to tap into their creativity and pass on the friendship between China and Russia from generation to generation.

Volin Alexei Konstantinovich,

deputy minister of communications and mass media of the Russian Federation

China Daily website and ourselves organized the 2017 China-Russia New Media Forum, where participants discussed not only new media development, but also youth and education issues. It is necessary for Russia and China to deepen collaboration in online media, since the two countries face similar challenges. We hope to strengthen education for young people to contribute to enhancing Russia-China relations.

Lu Lan,

deputy director-general of the Bureau of Mobile Internet Management of the Cyberspace Administration of China

Deepening exchanges and cooperation between online media from China and Russia is important to promote bilateral relations to a higher level. Online media in China and Russia should improve their cooperative mechanism and facilitate cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Meskhi Besarion Chohoevich,

rector of Don State Technical University

In the future, we plan to co-work with China to create a university. We also hope China and Russia will constantly expand bilateral cooperation in education and enhance mutual understanding.

Wang Dongmei,

exclusive secretary of the All-China Journalists Association

Last year, Chinese and Russian netizens chose the top 10 most influential literary works from each other's country via online voting. And Quiet Flows the Don, by Russian writer Mikhail Sholokhov, took the crown. When I was at university, I had to wait for a month to borrow this book from the library. Now, people can easily read the electronic version or listen to the audio version on their gadgets. Internet-based media and new media have made access to information - as well as life in general - more convenient.
