Wang: China takes its global role seriously

China will play an active role in helping to resolve regional and international hot issues as the country takes seriously its responsibility for maintaining international security, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
"Today, China is in a much better position to help resolve various regional and international issues. We are ready to play our part. Indeed, the world expects no less from us," Wang said at a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing annual session of the National People's Congress.
"As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China takes seriously its responsibility for maintaining international security," the minister said.
Wang said the country will follow a Chinese approach which is peaceful, justifiable and constructive and China prefers political settlement of disputes through dialogue and negotiation.
The minister also emphasized that the country firmly rejects the use of force and imposing one’s own views on others when it comes to resolving international conflicts and challenges.
"We respect other countries’ wish and sovereignty and never meddle in their internal affairs," Wang said.
