China will continue promoting green development: Vice-Premier

Tim Briercliffe, secretary general of the International Association of Horticultural Producers, acknowledged the world's environmental challenges and praised China's efforts in sustainable development and ecological civilization construction.

"The future of our planet requires countries and nations to work together to provide a livable world for the next generation," he said.

The expo has attracted more than 110 countries and regions, along with international organizations, and has entertained more than 1.9 million visitors at home and abroad since its opening day.

Participating countries and international organizations will host 58 national or honor days during the expo.

China Day was held by the Chinese government on Thursday, one day ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The China Pavilion in the expo park was decorated as a giant greenhouse with flower clusters to mark China Day.

A series of activities themed Splendid China was held inside the pavilion.

Through the use of traditional Chinese elements, the pavilion incorporated horticultural techniques with new media.

Adamou Oumarou, premier secretary of the Niger ambassador to China, said the China Pavilion showcased the ecological achievements of China and will do a big favor for the future development of floriculture in Niger and other western African countries.

Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, said he hopes the UAE will fully use China's experience in hosting large and successful international exhibitions when it holds the Expo 2020 in Dubai.

"The Expo 2019 had clearly conveyed a message to the entire world that we need to establish harmony between humans and nature," he said.

The expo will run until October 7.
