China Unicom signs deal to stream live sports events in 5G

China's sports fans will enjoy live events in 5G as the country's telecommunication giant signed a deal with the nation's major sport live platform.

China Unicom and zhibo.tv, an interactive high-definition sport live platform and subsidiary of China Sports Publications Corporation, jointly launched the country's first commercial 5G live product - a 5G table tennis live service on Wednesday.
China Unicom video app users will enjoy the newly launched 5G live of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Men's World Cup in Chengdu from November 29 to December 1. Fans will be able to view the games from different angles, according to sources from the launch ceremony.
Jia Zhiqiang, deputy director of the marketing department of China Unicom, said the corporation is committed to providing more 5G technology to partners' basic network, operating platform and marketing channel.
According to Niu Gang, president of zhibo.tv, the platform boasts quite a number of exclusive domestic and international sport copyright and exclusive table tennis new media copyright on Chinese mainland. Based on the live contents, the platform has established related program, users' forum and multi-channel network (MCN) distribution. The 5G cooperation with China Unicom will herald a new start for sport live and better experience for users.
