Yulin Lantern Festival showcases global and local dance
During the Lantern Festival celebrations on Wednesday, the ancient city of Yulin in Shaanxi province welcomed 35 folk Yangge dance teams from across the country, along with four international dance troupes from Russia, South Korea, Bulgaria and Thailand.
As thunderous drumbeats echoed, the Yangge dancers leaped and twirled with crimson drums strapped to their waists.
The performances highlighted regional Chinese dance traditions. Chaoshan Yingge dancers wielded batons in a display of martial vigor, Jingxing Lahua dancers from Hebei embodied the bold spirit of northern China with intricate shoulder and wrist movements, and Tea-Picking Dance performers evoked the misty charm of Fujian's tea plantations with delicate footwork.
The 12-day event showcases dance styles from across China alongside international performances. International and folk troupes seamlessly blended Eastern and Western rhythms, creating a dynamic fusion of styles.
"This year, we invited four international teams whose styles complement the festival, reflecting its openness. Yangge teams from across China, representing diverse ethnic backgrounds, highlight the country's rich cultural tapestry," said Zhang Shengbao, the event director.
Lantern Festival marks the grand finale of Spring Festival celebrations, traditionally featuring lantern displays, riddle-solving and performances.
