A group of 86 students from 11 schools of Shanghai University participated in a study program at various international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, gaining firsthand experience in global governance and diplomacy.

The program included visits to key international bodies including the United Nations Office at Geneva, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Labor Organization, the World Health Organization, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Students engaged in diplomatic simulations and participated in a model United Nations conference focused on environmental sustainability.

At WIPO, students learned about intellectual property's role in driving innovation and sustainable development. "The session deepened my understanding of intellectual property protection in a globalized context," said Yu Menglu from the Shanghai Film Academy.

During their visit to ILO, official Remo Becci presented on inclusive labor markets and global labor rights protection. "ILO's crucial work in eliminating child labor, promoting gender equality, and opposing forced labor left a deep impression," Tong Yuxuan said, a student from the School of Mechatronic Engineering and Automation.

At WHO headquarters, the delegation studied global health governance, including disease surveillance, emergency response, and healthcare system capacity building. Students also explored UNHCR and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, participating in humanitarian aid simulations.

The program extended beyond international organizations, with visits to the European Organization for Nuclear Research and local cultural sites, offering students a comprehensive perspective on international cooperation.

"This program is a crucial component of Shanghai University's initiative to cultivate globally competent youth with both national consciousness and international vision," said Lai Huijie, deputy director of the international office of Shanghai University Global. Through intensive practical training and interactions with senior international officials, students enhanced their cross-cultural communication skills and understanding of China's role in global governance.

Students expressed that the experience provided valuable insights into international affairs and inspired them to contribute to global development. "This journey opened my eyes to the world's vastness and strengthened my determination to contribute to solving global challenges," said Zong Zuyi, a freshman from SHU-UTS SILC Business School.
