A Formula 1-themed carnival was launched on Sunday through March 23 in Shanghai, combining interactive race-watching with city scenery through a dual-venue approach.

The Checkered Flag Carnival, featuring car shows, live performances, food markets, and pet activities, spans two locations: the Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading district and the International Cruise Terminal in Hongkou. The latter venue showcases a 600-meter F1-themed riverside corridor that complements the main racing events at the Shanghai International Circuit.

"We're bringing F1 to downtown Shanghai," said Xia Qing, deputy general manager of Shanghai Jiushi Culture and Media Co Ltd. "This dual-location approach extends the racing atmosphere beyond the traditional circuit boundaries, making it more accessible to urban residents while maintaining the authentic racing experience in Jiading."

The carnival in Hongkou will broadcast both the Australian and Chinese Grand Prix races. A centerpiece exhibition displays over 20 vehicles, including a 1985 Shanghai-brand vintage car featuring artistic paintwork of the TV series Blossoms Shanghai.

Premium manufacturers Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, and Mercedes-Benz are showcasing their classic models and supercars, highlighted by McLaren's champion edition ARTURA hybrid supercar and the Ferrari 458 China Dragon Limited Edition.

Chinese racing driver Zhou Guanyu, who recently signed with Ferrari, will appear on Tuesday. His personal IP art installation will debut simultaneously at both venues.

The carnival features nearly 100 artists performing across both locations, complemented by interactive installations, gaming zones, and exclusive F1 merchandise. In collaboration with the Pet Fair Asia, the carnival introduces a pet-themed day on Thursday, featuring pet parades and more.

International visitors have expressed enthusiasm for the event. "This will be my first time watching F1 races in Shanghai, and the carnival is amazing. The combination of these beautiful cars against Shanghai's skyline is incredible," said Adelusi, a visitor from the United States.

Moroccan international student Yassine Tazarni highlighted the carnival's historical aspects: "The Shanghai brand classic car showcase demonstrates how the city combines racing heritage with innovation and technology."

Ticket sales for both the Chinese Grand Prix and carnival events have shown strong demand, with most venues reaching near capacity. "We've opened international booking channels, and the response has been overwhelming," Xia said.
