Shanghai launches campaign to boost civic engagement, urban civilization

Shanghai has launched the 2025 "People's City, Civilized Spirit" campaign to nurture civic engagement and highlight the city's urban civilization through a series of community activities, the Shanghai Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee Office briefed the media on Wednesday.
Since its inception in March, the campaign has been a beacon of unity, catering to the diverse spiritual and cultural needs of Shanghai residents. From public lectures to community markets, citizen night schools to city walk routes, a plethora of events are set to unfold across various locations, including parks, commercial areas, communities, and rural regions.
Over the course of eight months, municipal districts, departments, and affiliated organizations are gearing up to host a total of 3,012 activities at different levels, ensuring widespread participation and engagement. A standout feature of the campaign is the "city civilization open mic" event, providing a platform for individuals from all walks of life to share their stories of contribution to Shanghai's growth and development.
The Shanghai Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee Office, in collaboration with district authorities, will spearhead six municipal-level events to identify and celebrate a new cohort of "city civilization spokespersons".
These individuals, chosen for their dedication and commitment to shaping the city's ethos, will serve as inspirational figures and advocates for the campaign's core values.
