As a historic trading port, Xiamen has long fostered a thriving coffee consumption culture, providing a natural advantage for the development of the coffee industry chain.
Xiamen has designated the coffee industry as a key sector for development in the city. In recent years, the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce has focused on building a "coffee industry hub" to promote digital transformation and efficient resource integration across the entire coffee supply chain.
Xiamen has established a fully integrated coffee industry chain covering green bean trading, roasting processing, extraction and freeze-drying, equipment manufacturing, retail distribution, and branded chains — forming a complete closed-loop system.
With its rich coffee culture, high density of specialty cafes, globally expanding brands, and comprehensive industrial chain, Xiamen possesses strong competitive advantages for the development of the coffee industry. These solid foundations support Xiamen's position as an emerging leader in China's specialty coffee sector.
For example, Luckin Coffee, founded in Xiamen and expanding nationwide, has grown into an industry leader. This Xiamen-based company not only boasts the largest number of stores nationwide but also holds the title of the largest coffee brand in China in terms of market revenue.
Notably, nearly half of all imported green coffee beans enter China's domestic market through the global supply chain networks of Xiamen-based enterprises. This demonstrates Xiamen's pivotal role as a national coffee distribution hub and its growing influence in the international coffee trade.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
