Shanghai Grand Theatre's 'Lady White Snake' to debut in New York

The dance Lady White Snake is a groundbreaking re-imagining of China's folk legend, The Tale of the White Snake. Moving beyond traditional narrative, this production transforms a thousand-year-old story into a profound exploration of the human psyche, where dance becomes a language of deep psychological revelation.
Zhang Xiaoding, general manager of SGT, said that the company's creation of Lady White Snake in 2021 was to innovate: "We want genres to converse and converge, and retell the legend through the interplay of classical ballet and Chinese classical dance."
The US debut performance will feature an international team of creators and performers led by artistic director Tan Yuanyuan.
During the Shanghai Day event, a Chinese folk music concert featuring new compositions about the 12 Chinese zodiac signs will also be given by Shanghai Chinese Orchestra.
A musical carnival and the themed marketplace "Shanghai City Fair" will bring together Shanghai's intangible cultural heritage, game and animation art, cultural brands, and exclusive food and drinks, providing a full sensory dive into the charm of urban Chinese culture.
