The Xizang autonomous region remains one of the best places in the world in terms of its ecological environment, with ecological and environmental quality generally remaining stable, according to the region's 2024 Environmental Bulletin, released on Thursday.
Shui Yanping, deputy head of the region's ecology and environment department, stated that the water quality in the region's major rivers and lakes was satisfactory last year, meeting the quality standards and national regulations established by the central government.
"Water quality in the region's key rivers — the Lancang, Yarlung Zangbo, Jinsha, and Nujiang — has met Class II surface water quality standards," Shui said.

In 2024, the region's proportion of days with excellent ambient air quality reached 99.7 percent overall. In Lhasa, the region's capital, the figure reached 99.5 percent, ranking top among 168 key cities nationwide, Shui said.
The water quality of major rivers and lakes in the region met or exceeded Class III standards, while the compliance rate for drinking water sources also reached 100 percent, according to the bulletin.
