Opera meets world

Over 30 international students from Vietnam, the United States, and Russia explored the art of Sichuan Opera on Saturday at Beicang Cultural and Creative Park in Jiangbei district, Chongqing. Sichuan Opera originated in Sichuan province around the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Today, it remains popular among the Han Chinese in Sichuan and Chongqing, as well as in parts of Guizhou and Yunnan provinces. During the event, the students watched a performance by the Chongqing Sichuan Opera Art Center, tried opera face painting and costumes, and learned singing techniques from the performers.
