Delegates from African countries called for a sharing of China's successful experience of poverty reduction Thursday at the seminar "Supporting Africa's Development: Sharing Experience to Reduce Poverty."

"China's reforms over the past 25 years have led to stunning growth and development as well as a dramatic reduction poverty," said Fola Adeola, commissioner of the Commission for Africa, an UK-proposed organization to support the development of Africa, noting that China's experience of development challenges is more tangible than that of Africa's traditional donor partners.

"African admire China's success and find its approach to cooperation with them practical, pragmatic and result-oriented", Adeola said.

The commissioner also noted that there is much for African countries to learn from China's inspiring approach to development which acknowledges the difficulties, appreciates the complexities and offers an empowering menu of approaches to tackle otherwise overwhelming challenges.

"It is therefore not surprising that China's technical assistance to Africa is based on the exchange of development lessons, knowledge and strategy, and is a key part of the cooperation between China and Africa," Adeola said.

Cameroonian Ambassador to China Eleih-Elle Etian said that Africa now struggles with various types of poverty, suffering from shortages of infrastructure, poor economic structures and insufficiencies of capital and talented people, calling for African countries to learn from the experience of China and further boost cooperation in fields of economy, culture and education.

China has offered economic assistance to nearly 900 projects in Africa since the 1950s.

Jin Yongjian, president of the United Nations Association of China, said China, as the world's largest developing country, attaches great importance to its relations with African countries, and that Sino-African cooperation is one of the important parts of the South-South cooperation.

China will continue to support the African countries' efforts to strengthen international cooperation to promote their national economy and reduce poverty, Jin noted, stating that China is committed to cooperating with the international community, including African countries, to address world poverty.

The seminar is co-sponsored by the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Department of International Development of the United Kingdom. More than 100 representatives from the Chinese government, African embassies in China, international organizations and Chinese businesses attended the seminar.
