At least seven people were killed and 17 wounded, none of them U.S. troops, when a suicide car bomber attacked an entrance to Baghdad's Green Zone government compound Monday, officials said.

A column of smoke rises after a powerful car bomb exploded at a checkpoint leading into the so-called "Green Zone" in Baghdad December 13, 2004. Staff at the city's Yarmuk hospital, where civilian casualties are generally taken, said they had received seven bodies and were treating 17 people for injuries.

A U.S. military spokeswoman said no one from the U.S.-led forces was wounded or killed in the attack.

"There were no multinational personnel wounded or killed. There were Iraqis but we are waiting for the exact toll. There were several civilian cars destroyed. Firefighters are on the scene," the spokeswoman said.
