NBA Wrap: Suns beat Clippers to maintain best record

Shawn Marion and Steve Nash each posted double-doubles as the Phoenix Suns eased past the Los Angeles Clippers 108-91 on Saturday, improving their record to an NBA best 29-4.

Marion had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the streaking Suns while Nash added 10 points and 10 assists.

Joe Johnson had a game-high 23 points for the Suns, who equaled their win total from last season with the victory and improved to 15-2 on the road.

In San Antonio, Argentine Manu Ginobli had 22 points and Frenchman Tony Parker scored 20 as the Spurs continue their domination at home with a 99-90 win over the slumping Denver Nuggets.

Twice NBA MVP Tim Duncan also made a big contribution to the San Antonio cause, pouring in 19 points and snaring nine rebounds as the Spurs improved to 17-1 at the SBC Center, giving them the best home record in the league.

The Spurs only home loss this season was to the Seattle SuperSonics in early December.

Bruce Bowen had 17 points for San Antonio and, more importantly, limited Nuggets leading scorer Carmelo Anthony to eight points as Denver dropped its fifth straight road game.

In Cleveland, LeBron James had 22 points as the Cavaliers roared to a 31-point halftime lead before cruising to a 104-79 victory over New York Knicks.

Still wearing a facemask to protect a broken cheekbone, James hit all seven of his shots in the opening half.

He played only 31 minutes but his contribution was more than enough as the Cavaliers got double-digit efforts from four other players.

Lucious Harris had 16 points, Ira Newble 14, Jeff McInnis 13 and Sasha Pavlovic 10, helping the Cavaliers to their third straight win.

In Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki drained 34 points and 13 rebounds and Michael Finley had season high 33 points as the Mavericks crushed the Indiana Pacers 121-101 to record their fifth consecutive victory.

Jermaine O'Neal, continued to lead the Pacers since returning from suspension, scored 32 points as Indiana dropped its second game in a row.

In Washington, Gilbert Arenas poured in a season-high 40 points, including eight in the final three minutes, powering the Wizards to their fourth straight win with a 117-114 victory over the slumping Minnesota Timberwolves.

NBA MVP Kevin Garnett had 25 points, 19 rebound, eight assists and four blocks but it was not enough to keep the Timberwolves from suffering their fifth loss in six games.

In Orlando, Grant Hill had 22 points as Cuttino Mobley and Hedo Turkoglu added 19 each as the Magic fought off a comeback bid from the New Jersey Nets to claim a 104-101 victory.

The Nets defeat wasted a triple-double performance from Jason Kidd, who had 22 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

In Milwaukee, Michael Redd had 26 points, including two key free throws with five seconds to play, as the Bucks claimed a 89-86 over Utah, sending the Jazz to their ninth straight defeat.

In New Orleans, Baron Davis had 26 points, 17 assists and 10 rebounds for his fourth career triple-double as the Hornets ended a 10 game-losing skid with 121-117 overtime win against the Sacramento Kings.

Rookie J.R. Smith contributed 23 to the cause as the Hornets celebrated just their third win of the season.

In Chicago, Kirk Hinrich had 22 points and equalled a career-high 14 assists as the Bulls dumped the Boston Celtics 102-91.
