威猛樂(lè)隊(duì)由兩位小學(xué)時(shí)代的好友組成，他們是喬治·邁克爾（George Michael）和安德魯·維治利（Andrew Ridgeley）。 從小他們便熱衷于音樂(lè)。高中畢業(yè)后，他們失業(yè)在家，但這也使得他們能更加致力于歌曲的創(chuàng)作。1982年，他們寫(xiě)了一首描述英國(guó)青年人中失業(yè)狀況的歌曲《威猛輕敲》（《Wham Rap》），并以此獲得了唱片公司的合約和公眾的注意。不久，威猛的名字就開(kāi)始出現(xiàn)在英美兩地的流行歌曲排行榜上。

1984年，WhaM!樂(lè)隊(duì)推出了它的第二張唱片專(zhuān)輯《Make it Big》，其中就有這首《Careless Whisper》。唱片推出后大受歡迎，有3個(gè)星期位居美國(guó)Billboard排行榜榜首，連續(xù)18個(gè)星期進(jìn)入排行榜前10名。
