Pingtan popular with Taiwan business people (Part II)

Established in 2009, the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) has been tasked with carrying out economic reforms for cross-Straits cooperation. Authorities in Pingtan have tried to attract Taiwan companies, with the goal of making Pingtan a “Common Homeland” for people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Their efforts have paid off, as a number of Taiwan officials and entrepreneurs have all spoken highly of the dynamic economic zone off the eastern Fujian province.

The followings are some of their quotes on Pingtan.

Qiu Mengqiu, president of China Haixia Cross-Straits Industrial Development Council:

“Our council congregates the latest news about Pingtan and gives our members the information they need first hand. The council also provides counseling and guidance to increase communication and cooperation between young entrepreneurs on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, inspiring them to new ideas and creating new operation modes.”

Cai Shenghong, manager of innovation center at Providence University:

“The status as a free trade zone will enhance Pingtan’s geographic and policy advantages. Taiwan companies can use Pingtan as a springboard to distribute products in the Chinese mainland. Cross-Straits trades are picking up and the shipping business is growing especially fast. I believe this will attract more Taiwan companies to settle in Pingtan.”

Lin Yingjie, Secretary-general of Taichung Business Incubator Alliance (TBIA)

“Pingtan has normalized the entry of Taiwan-registered vehicles. So I think Pingtan can the first stop of the Taiwan Recreational Vehicle (RV) Show, a new lifestyle TBIA has been promoting.”

Weng Boji, president of Cross-Straits Recreational Vehicle Industry Association:

“Changhua county has opened a themed pavilion at the duty-free Taiwan Commodity Market in Pingtan. It will help us learn more about Pingtan’s preferential policies and other incentives. We plan to bring more of our members, including companies and college graduates, to Pingtan.”

Liu Zhenrong, vice president of Changhua Enterprise Business Promotion Alliance:

“My companies mainly engage in research and manufacturing of cosmetics and health products. We plan to build a factory in Pingtan. I’ve been to Pingtan a lot and have been impressed by its change over the years. I think Pingtan will gradually make itself known on the international stage.”

Xue Yayun, manager of Kangdefu Taiwan International Technology Co Ltd:

The Taiwan Business Incubator in Pingtan is a great platform for young entrepreneurs from both sides of the Taiwan Straits to brainstorm and start their careers. Pingtan has also released a great number of favorable policies to attract talents.

Huang Yufu, general manager of Taiwan-based Acarps Technology Co:

“In the premise of cross-Straits youth cooperation, Pingtan can try cultural creativity and trading industries, where young entrepreneurs can set up join ventures with financial and policy support from the local government.”

Wang Zhongxian, former president of Kaohsiung Youth Entrepreneurship Association:

“Pingtan and Taiwan can cooperate in sightseeing tourism. Our association is responsible for reception of high-end tourists. We plan to invest in leisure and tourism villages in Pingtan.”
