Chinese mainland slams DPP for impeding travel fair

A Chinese mainland spokeswoman on Friday criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party for interfering with cross-Strait tourism exchanges after the island recently rejected the entry of mainland personnel to organize the Cross-Strait Taipei Summer Travel Fair in Taiwan.

Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said, "It once again exposes the DPP's sinister intentions to block cross-Strait exchanges and its ugly face of ignoring the difficulties faced by industry and disregarding the well-being of the people."

Zhu said the mainland has been actively promoting regular exchanges in various fields, and measures have been taken on cross-Strait tourism issues to benefit people on both sides.

She accused the DPP authorities of continuously delaying and obstructing the resumption of cross-Strait tourism for their own political gain, and now interfering with industry exchanges and cooperation like the travel fair.

"The mainstream opinion in Taiwan, which seeks peace, development, communication and cooperation, cannot be ignored by anyone," Zhu said, adding that the DPP's various regressive actions will inevitably face a backlash from the public.

More than 150 representatives from 12 provincial regions participated in the travel fair in Taiwan last year, forming a large exchange group to Taiwan from the mainland since COVID-19.
