In a recent interview with China Daily, 98-year-old veteran Li Qing reminisced about the war years of his youth, reflected on China's triumph, and called for peace. He considers the motherland's interests to be of the greatest importance.

Li was born in June 1927 in Chengjiazhuang village of Liulin county, Lyuliang city, Shanxi province. His early years were marked by the tumultuous events of the Japanese invasion and subsequent wars. After witnessing the atrocities committed by the Japanese invaders and the suffering of his fellow citizens, Li resolved to defend his homeland.

At the age of 16, he joined the anti-Japanese guerrilla forces, embarking on a lifelong military career dedicated to defending his nation.

"I joined the military to fight against Japan and to save China," Li said. "If anyone tries to bully China, we will stand up and fight back."

Li is a veteran of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), the War of Liberation (1946-49), and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53).

Following the Korean War, Li joined other volunteer soldiers to contribute to the post-war reconstruction efforts, exemplifying the spirit of internationalism and fostering enduring friendships with the Korean people.

Throughout his military career, Li remained committed to the ideals of communism and the prosperity of his beloved homeland.

"Now China is powerful, a vast country with a large population," the veteran said. "We've never been the type to bully others, but we won't let anyone push us around either."

As the nation commemorates the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Li expressed hope for a continuously improving country, happier lives for its people, and a collective remembrance of history to cherish peace.

Li Qing's unwavering dedication to his country exemplifies the timeless values of sacrifice, patriotism, and resilience that continue to inspire people.
