Ex-offshore oil corp official expelled from CPC for serious violations

Yuan Guangyu, former deputy general manager of China National Offshore Oil Corp, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for serious violations, according to a decision made by the country's top anti-corruption watchdogs.

The decision was disclosed online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision on Thursday after their investigation.

The commissions found that Yuan resisted scrutiny into his conduct and accepted golf activities that compromised the fair implementation of his official duties.

He was also discovered to have taken advantage of his positions to seek benefits for others in job promotion, project contracting and business operation, and received large sums of money in return, the commissions said.

Additionally, the authorities revealed that he engaged in financial and sexual transactions, and after retirement, he violated regulations by taking part in profit-making activities related to his former official duties.

The commissions said that Yuan had seriously violated the Party's disciplines and was suspected of duty-related crimes, leading to the decision to expel him from the CPC and confiscate his illicit gains.

His case will also be transferred to prosecutors for further review and prosecution, they added.

Yuan, born in 1959, had worked for the offshore oil system for decades. In August 2016, he became the deputy general manager of the China National Offshore Oil Corp, China's largest producer of offshore oil and gas. In 2019, he retired from the public office.

In March, he was placed under disciplinary and supervisory investigation.
